Evaluation Activity 4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
I find that our thriller opening would be more suitable to a younger generation from young teenagers to adults, e.g. from 15 to 25 year olds.
From the previous research that I have conducted on audience, I have found out that younger people enjoy watching thriller films compared to older people and the gender variation for thriller films are quite equal and I think that our film would be appropriate for a male and female audience at younger generation.
After taking into account our audience research feedback, I think that our opening could possibly be at a rating of a 15.
I think that our thriller will not be suitable for older generation or to viewers that are very young due to the conventions that are seen in thriller genre films like ours...
- Loud music that adds tension to the scenes
- Fast paced actions
- Disturbing scenes that make the audience jump
- Dramatic climax
- Antagonist; could scare the children and they may not be able to enjoy it.
- The story is aimed at younger adults compared to the older generation or to very younger viewers.
After taking into account our audience research feedback, I think that our opening could possibly be at a rating of a 15.
Protagonist;
Comparison 1
Comparison 1
The films 'Taken' and 'Psycho' are examples of successful film that have a female victim which is similar to our film, 'Unhinged'. This conforms the conventional stereotype of a female victim being vulnerable as the both characters shown above are afraid of the current situation they are in.
Antagonist;
Comparison 2
We decided to use another female character as our antagonist that challenges the stereotype. For example in The Hunger Games and Salt, the main character is a female, who comes across as strong, confident, powerful female which breaks the stereotype of a shy, vulnerable and weak female like our female antagonist. The thriller appeals to our target audience because of this idea of having a female antagonist as it challenges the stereotype and makes the thriller more interesting to watch. It will attract a greater audience due to the fact that it is different than the conventional stalker thriller, where usually it's a male who comes across as strong, powerful and confident but in ours it's a female.
